As a club, we are very outward-looking - dedicated to helping protect the natural environment and participating in the fight against the climate crisis.
Winscar reservoir (where we sail) is situated in the Peak District National Park which is one of the most beautiful and diverse habitats in the UK. We passionately believe it should be protected and treasured.
Our club is always looking for new ways to reduce the impacts of transport, production and consumption. Our boson's make every effort to repair all of our equipment themselves so that everything is used to it's fullest potential. Any new purchases for the club (like stash!) are sourced from sustainable materials as much as possible and are designed to be used and loved for years to come.
The Green Blue Challenage
As part of our commitment towards sustainability, we are participating in The Green Blue Challenge which is an initiative jointly run between BUSA and the RYA for university sailing clubs up and down the country.
SUSC has managed to achieve the Bronze, Silver and Gold awards, and in the 2023/24 academic year we hope to achieve the Platinum award!
